Flying High in Hawaii
The wind that day was hectic. Though we were all a little scared, my family and I still committed to ziplining. It was at least 50 feet high, and I have a crazy fear of heights. It was an incredible view overlooking the rest of the island of Maui. There was no city around. Green trees everywhere and palm trees. It was only us. I almost fell off because the wind was so strong, though I was connected to a carabiner.
I didn’t want to do it at first, but my three siblings and my mom would’ve been disappointed. They kept telling me how amazing a time it would be and that we would be safe. I felt safer, though, because a guide was helping us hook and unhook our carabiners. I ended up giving in, and went from being the most scared to having the best time! We all screamed, but I screamed the loudest while flying over rivers and trees. We were very ecstatic with the experience. I am so glad that I did it.
On our way back on the bus, it was really interesting to listen to the Hawaiian language. Learning that even though they are a part of the United States, it felt like I was in a different country. Their slang and accents were completely unique. I asked our tour guide about their slang and accents, and he taught me about the history of Polynesian people and the culture of Hawaiians. I loved gaining an understanding of their people. I now know that traveling can be a way to learn about people's backgrounds and beliefs. Aloha!
